Head of Badko HMI North Sumatra Claims to Receive Threats After Discussing Andrie Yunus Case

Chairman of the Coordinating Body of the Indonesian Muslim Students’ Association in North Sumatra (Badko HMI Sumut), Yusril Mahendra Butar Butar, claims to have received terror and intimidation. He received these threats after organising a discussion forum related to the acid attack case on Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus.

The terror was received by Yusril via WhatsApp messages. In a screenshot viewed on Monday (30/3/2026), the message demanded that Yusril delete videos of the event from Badko HMI Sumut’s social media account. The sender then claimed to know the whereabouts of Yusril and his family.

Yusril was subsequently warned to be careful over the next 7x24 hours. The sender threatened to execute Yusril.

The discussion event itself was held on Tuesday (17/3) at the Insan Cita Building of Badko HMI Sumut. Speakers included LBH Medan and Bakumsu.

“Do not let actions that I should not have to take be executed against you,” read one of the messages received by Yusril.

In response, Yusril emphasised that he would not be intimidated by any form of pressure. He stated that he would remain alongside Andrie Yunus in seeking justice.

“I am never afraid of any form of terror. We stand with Andrie Yunus to seek justice and truth,” said Yusril Mahendra Butar Butar.
