Head of Authority States Gibran Can Start Working in IKN This Year

The Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, stated that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka could start working in IKN, East Kalimantan, this year. Basuki explained that in terms of infrastructure, the office buildings and residences for Vice President Gibran are ready for use in the near future. “Yes, I think that’s just a leak, just a plan, just preparation. From my side at the Authority, my house is already there. So I hope that happens, that he will really work there. That’s my hope,” Basuki said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (30/3/2026). When confirmed regarding the target timeline for starting the Vice President’s office activities in IKN, Basuki emphasised that it is very possible to realise this year. According to him, the main and supporting facilities in IKN for Gibran to work have reached the finalisation stage. “This year it can (start working), because the building is already done, yes. Even the temporary furniture is already done,” explained the former Minister of Public Works and Public Housing. Basuki also revealed that preparations are not only in terms of buildings but also in human resource readiness. He mentioned that several staff from the Vice President’s Secretariat are already at the location to carry out coordination and technical preparations. “There are already some (Vice President’s staff) there,” he added briefly.
