Hazy days of university
Hazy days of university
From Pikiran Rakyat
The practice of hazing new students entering university is
counterproductive despite all of the arguments given to defend
the practice.
The physical torture to which the incoming freshmen are
subjected, purportedly done to test their mental resilience, may
leave only a deep desire for revenge that will need channeling
the next year. This will lead to a never-ending cycle of revenge.
University officials who issue permits for hazing must
therefore make sure that the program is beneficial to the
freshmen and also to members of the campus in general. Hazing
that only benefits a small group of campus members must be
prohibited.
