Hazards on toll road

From Republika

I would like to report on the Cawang-Jatibening toll road.

Repair work was done on this road in June. Numerous holes were dug, measuring about 500 x 100 x 3 cms.

In July a new three-centimeter asphalt layer was applied on the four lanes of the same road. Hook irons were placed on the side as stoppers. But the system was irregular, and an accident occurred on July 11.

I strongly deplore the absence of clear traffic signs to remind motorists of the ongoing repairs. Sudden braking is a frequent occurrence. Is safety no consideration in the road repair project?

I would propose the following to the toll road authority:

1. Installation of clear signs at an adequate distance before the location of the repair work because the traffic coming from three directions (Grogol/Gatot Subroto, Tanjung Priok and Cawang Bawah) is very fast.

2. The application of a new asphalt layer must be done lane by lane in order not to confuse motorists.

3. The use of electronic and printed media to inform the public about the repairs.
