Hayam Wuruk online gambling suspects questioned in phases
Jakarta – The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Dittipidum) of the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) is examining online gambling (judol) suspects arrested in the Hayam Wuruk area, West Jakarta, in a phased manner. Sub-Directorate III of Dittipidum Bareskrim Polri, Kombes Pol. Dony Alexander, said that today they would first question 40 foreign suspects, with the remainder to be questioned the following day. ‘For today, 40 suspects. Tomorrow, another 40 suspects,’ he told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that the staged questioning was due to limitations in space, time and human resources. ‘Because space and time must be coordinated, and with the strength of investigators and interpreters, we can take the opportunity to obtain additional statements from 40 people as suspects,’ he said. The purpose of these examinations, he added, is to delve into each suspect’s role. Regarding development of the case, he could not reveal further details yet. ‘It is still under examination as suspects and development is ongoing. The pinnacle will be released by Pak Dirtipidum later,’ he said. Previously, Dittipidum Bareskrim Polri named 321 suspects in a case of alleged international judol network at Hayam Wuruk Plaza Tower, West Jakarta. Of the 321 suspects, 320 were foreigners and one Indonesian. The foreigners include 228 Vietnamese, 57 Chinese, 13 Myanmar nationals, 11 Lao, five Thais, three Malaysians and three Cambodians. During the investigation, the foreign suspects were housed at the Immigration Detention House in Kuningan, South Jakarta, and in West Jakarta. Meanwhile, one Indonesian suspect was detained at the Bareskrim Polri Detention House.
