Hawker Dies After Being Crushed by Truck Aboard the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya
An itinerant hawker named Yanti died after being crushed by a box-bodied truck on the deck of the passenger motor ship KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya 5888. The fatal accident occurred as the vessel she was aboard docked at Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana, Bali. ‘Yes, there was a workplace accident involving a hawker and a box truck on the ship,’ said Gilimanuk Naval Post Commander Lieutenant Commander (P) Yuli Prasetyo, when contacted by detikBali on Thursday, 21 May 2026. The incident occurred around 03:40 WITA on Thursday (21/5). The victim, a hawker by profession, was a middle-aged woman from Lingkungan Penginuman, Kelurahan Gilimanuk, Jembrana. Yuli said the accident began during cargo loading of vehicles onto the deck of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya 5888. Suddenly, a box truck with plate W 8653 UV moved and pinned the victim, who was believed to be hawking her wares nearby. Seeing the incident, officers and local residents quickly evacuated Yanti, who sustained severe injuries. The victim was then taken to Gilimanuk Health Centre (Puskesmas Gilimanuk) by ambulance. ‘After receiving medical treatment, the victim was pronounced dead by the medical team at Gilimanuk Puskesmas,’ Yuli added. Following the incident, the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya 5888 was still dispatched to Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, East Java. The ship sailed according to its scheduled timetable. ‘The truck driver has been detained by the police,’ Yuli said.
