Destry Damayanti has officially assumed the role of Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), following the results of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Plenary Session on Tuesday (1/9/2026), replacing Perry Warjiyo, who resigned in late July 2026.

Destry revealed that her policy direction will place greater emphasis on pro-stability efforts amidst the challenges of global uncertainty. “What is certain is that if existing policies (from the Perry Warjiyo era) are good and in line with modern developments, we will certainly continue them,” Destry told reporters at the DPR RI Complex on Tuesday.

Furthermore, she stated that she will prioritise efforts to maintain financial market stability, given the high levels of global geo-economic and geopolitical uncertainty. “Because policy is highly dependent on current conditions, and we see that global uncertainty remains high. This means stability remains our priority; if our economy is stable, we can maintain a stable exchange rate and stable inflation, which will create a conducive economic climate for future growth,” she explained.

“So, the sense remains the same: since global uncertainty is still high, stability remains the key for us,” she emphasised.

Regarding coordination and cooperation with the government, Destry stated that BI will continue to maintain a good relationship with the fiscal authority. She noted that cooperation between the Central Bank and the government is already established through several policies, including liquidity management.

“It is already in motion; when we talk about liquidity, Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance must work together to provide liquidity. As the government implements expansionary fiscal policy, Bank Indonesia must support that. Therefore, the communication we need to maintain is ensuring that fiscal and monetary policies move in harmony,” she said.

Another focus of Destry’s policy is inflation control, particularly volatile food inflation, which refers to inflation caused by fluctuations in food prices. “Additionally, regarding volatile food inflation, maintaining stability is one of our targets. However, we know there are supply-side sources of inflation that Bank Indonesia cannot handle alone. Therefore, Bank Indonesia invites relevant institutions, including the Central and Regional Governments, regarding food supply,” she noted.

Destry mentioned that BI operates 46 representative offices across various regions in Indonesia, which consistently work with local governments and relevant agencies to address food scarcity. She stated that this is a concrete form of BI’s efforts to handle issues within the real sector.

Furthermore, Destry highlighted massive efforts to encourage the implementation of Local Currency Transaction (LCT) policies for use by businesses in Indonesia, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). These efforts are carried out alongside various stakeholders, including support from the House of Representatives (DPR RI).

“These are just a few examples, as my theme is ‘Red and White Synergy’ for the welfare of the people. We will optimise the synergies we can achieve, but certainly without ignoring the mandates and authorities of the respective institutions involved in that synergy,” she said.

Following her appointment as BI Governor through the DPR RI Plenary Session agreement on Tuesday, Destry is scheduled to be inaugurated at the Supreme Court (MA) on Wednesday (2/9/2026) afternoon.
