This was the experience of Dian (35), a working mother. She admitted that she once managed her finances in a single savings account.

She also tried separating the money into different accounts.

“The main challenge is usually ensuring that all needs are met without overspending, especially when there are many expenses,” Dian told Kompas.com some time ago.

After trying various ways to manage family finances to prevent leakage, Dian now separates money based on needs using the digital ‘wallet’ feature within a banking application.

According to her, this makes the flow of expenses easier to monitor.

The money can be divided into several digital wallets but remains in one account, making it safer and less likely to be used for other needs.

“So, it’s easier to see where the money is being spent and to control expenses,” she said.

She also uses the ‘wallet sharing’ feature from a digital bank to save together with her husband, relatives, and friends for various purposes.

For example, she uses the feature with her husband to save for family vacation expenses.

She also uses this feature for group savings with her friends. “It’s really fun to be able to do group savings with friends. And you don’t even need to meet up; you can draw lots for the savings directly in the sharing feature,” she said enthusiastically.

The phenomenon of financial leakage, even after budgeting, is actually experienced by many young families.

Financial planner Andi Nugroho said that this problem generally occurs because family expenses are too close to income.
