Have an umbrella ready, BMKG forecasts most of Indonesia's provinces to be drenched by rain on Thursday
Be prepared with an umbrella as BMKG forecasts most provincial capitals in Indonesia will be showered with light rain on Thursday. BMKG forecaster Alya S, on a YouTube channel followed in Jakarta, reminded the public to remain alert for potential downpours of heavy to very heavy rain in Bengkulu, South Sumatra, the Bangka Belitung Islands, Banten, Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). For weather in major cities, beginning with those on Sumatra Island—Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, and Banda Aceh—the forecast is for thick cloud cover, while light rain could occur in Padang, Jambi, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung. “Be wary of thunderstorms that may occur in Bengkulu and Pangkal Pinang,” Alya said. Moving to Kalimantan, she continued, Banjarmasin is forecast to be overcast, while Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, and Palangkaraya will be soaked by light rain. Moving to Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Alya said the weather is forecast to be light rain in Denpasar and Kupang, while Mataram may experience moderate rain. Next, for Sulawesi, she continued, rainfall of moderate intensity is forecast for Makassar, Kendari, Mamuju, Palu, and Gorontalo. Manado is likely to experience moderate rain as well. “Merauke will be subjected to moderate rainfall,” Alya said. She also noted that the tropical cyclone seed 90S is predicted to lie in the southwestern Indian Ocean to the south of East Java. Within 48-72 hours its intensity is expected to fall to tropical-low. The development of this disturbance into a tropical cyclone is of low potential.
