Haurgeulis Station Records Passenger Growth as North Coast Mobility Rises
Almost 100,000 passenger journeys were recorded from January to April 2026, with train services connecting to various cities across Java. Indramayu Regency – Situated on Java’s northern route, a long-standing key mobility corridor, Haurgeulis Station continues to serve passengers travelling to major cities across Java. The station in Indramayu Regency is a crucial hub for regional mobility in West Java’s North Coast (Pantura). PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded 49,486 boardings at Haurgeulis Station from January to April 2026, up from 45,836 in the same period of 2025. Alightings also rose to 49,133, compared to 43,943 in the previous year. Anne Purba, KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, stated that the growth reflects high demand for travel from Haurgeulis and surrounding areas for economic, educational, family, and tourism activities. “Haurgeulis Station facilitates passenger mobility to various destinations across Java. This passenger growth demonstrates that trains remain an efficient, comfortable, and reliable travel option,” said Anne. The increased mobility aligns with Indramayu Regency’s socio-economic development. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows the regency’s population reached approximately 1.94 million in 2025, with economic growth of around 5 per cent driven by trade, agriculture, manufacturing, and transport sectors. Additionally, BPS data indicates Indramayu remains one of West Java’s top rice-producing regions, with hundreds of thousands of hectares harvested annually. Ongoing economic activity further fuels intercity rail travel demand. Haurgeulis Station has a long history as part of the Pantura mainline, which developed during the Staatsspoorwegen era. This route historically connected northern coastal Java’s agricultural and trade products to major cities. Currently, Haurgeulis Station serves trains on both northern and central Java routes. For the Pantura line, passengers can use services such as the Argo Cheribon (Cirebon–Gambir), Ciremai (Semarang Tawang–Bandung), Dharmawangsa (Surabaya Pasarturi–Pasar Senen), Kertajaya (Surabaya Pasarturi–Pasar Senen), Majapahit (Malang–Pasar Senen), Tawang Jaya (Semarang Poncol–Pasar Senen), Tegal Bahari, and Tegal Ekspres (Tegal–Pasar Senen). For central and southern Java routes, services include Fajar Utama YK (Yogyakarta–Pasar Senen), Fajar Utama Solo (Solo Balapan–Pasar Senen), Bogowonto (Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen), Bangunkarta (Jombang–Pasar Senen), Brantas (Blitar–Pasar Senen), Singasari (Blitar–Pasar Senen), Mataram (Solo Balapan–Pasar Senen), Gaya Baru Malam Selatan (Surabaya Gubeng–Pasar Senen), Jaka Tingkir (Solo Purwosari–Pasar Senen), and Kutojaya Utara (Kutoarjo–Pasar Senen). This diverse service network positions Haurgeulis Station as a vital transit point for travel to Jakarta, Cirebon, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo, Surabaya, and Malang. Weekends and holidays see increased passenger numbers for tourism and family trips. “The varied train services at Haurgeulis Station provide convenient mobility for Indramayu residents and surrounding areas. KAI remains committed to maintaining high-quality services to ensure safe, comfortable, and punctual journeys,” Anne concluded.
