Hata Completes USD 8 Million Series A Funding Round Led by Bybit
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, (ANTARA/PRNewswire) - Hata, the only digital asset exchange in Malaysia holding two licences, today completed a USD 8 million (approximately RM 31.6 million) Series A funding round led by Bybit, the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, along with several leading global family offices. This funding initiates a broader strategic collaboration between the two companies—not limited to investment, but also reflecting a shared commitment to developing the digital asset ecosystem in Malaysia in a responsible and sustainable manner.
“Malaysia is a strategic market for Bybit. The country also has a high level of digital technology adoption in Southeast Asia, thus holding significant potential for the long-term utilisation of digital assets. We view Hata as the right partner to serve Malaysian investors through a regulated platform. By combining Hata’s leadership in the local market with Bybit’s global strengths in technology and product innovation, we aim to accelerate the growth of the digital asset ecosystem and tokenised real-world assets in Malaysia,” said Ben Zhou, Co-founder & CEO of Bybit.
This Series A funding continues Bybit’s participation in Hata’s USD 4.2 million seed round, while strengthening the relationship that is now evolving into a strategic partnership. The funding also involves a number of global family offices focused on the technology sector and financial markets in Southeast Asia.
Hata will use the funding for three main focuses: strengthening platform liquidity, accelerating user growth through marketing initiatives and ecosystem development, and collaborating with Bybit to develop innovative digital asset products designed specifically for the Malaysian market.
“The partnership with Bybit is a pivotal moment for Hata and the digital asset industry in Malaysia. Bybit’s decision to lead this funding while forging a strategic partnership validates our belief that the crypto industry must be built the right way—through official licences, strict compliance, and a high commitment to investor protection. Together, we will combine Hata’s regulated local platform with Bybit’s global expertise to expand opportunities for users in Malaysia,” said David Low, CEO of Hata.
