Hasyim's daughters wed, Mega attends

MALANG, East Java: President Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is heading for a crushing defeat in last week's presidential election, attended the wedding of her running mate Hasyim Muzadi's daughters in Malang on Sunday.

Accompanied by her husband Taufik Kiemas, Megawati arrived at Hasyim's Al-Hikam Islamic boarding school at 7.a.m., where the wedding ceremony was held.

After congratulating the two couples, Alfi Rachmawati and Edy, and Hilman Wajdi and Lailatul Izza, the President and her entourage flew home to Jakarta from the Abdurrahman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang.

Before she left, Megawati expressed her gratitude to local Muslim clerics for helping make the Sep. 20 presidential election a success. -- Antara
