Hasto's Response to Golkar's Proposed Permanent Coalition Plan
INDONESIAN Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said his party is in a permanent coalition with the people. The statement was a response to the emerging discourse on forming a permanent coalition proposed by Golkar.
“For PDI Perjuangan, our permanent coalition is with the people,” he said at the Gelora Bung Karno complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, 15 February 2026.
He explained that the political system adopted in Indonesia after the fall of Soeharto’s New Order regime has restored the meaning of power as being for, from, and by the people. Hasto said this is the system that the bull party has upheld all along.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that political dynamics are ever-changing. Shifts in the national political landscape, he said, make it possible for cooperation between political parties to emerge.
“But if a party proposes a permanent partnership, PDIP does not interfere with the sovereignty of other parties,” said Hasto.
Previously, the Golkar Party proposed the formation of a permanent coalition. This position was conveyed at the party’s first National Leadership Meeting on Saturday, 20 December 2025. The party led by Bahlil Lahadalia continues to open channels of communication with political parties supporting the Prabowo Subianto administration, in an effort to realize the formation of such a permanent coalition.
