Hasto reflects on Independence Day from Pusuk Buhit, Samosir

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PDI Perjuangan Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto made the ascent of Pusuk Buhit in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra, a moment of reflection ahead of the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.

During the climb, which took place on Saturday night (15/8), Hasto offered prayers for the Proclaimers of Indonesian Independence, Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta, the nation’s heroes, PDI Perjuangan Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, and the Indonesian people.

“We pray for Bung Karno, Bung Hatta, and all the nation’s heroes. We pray for Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri, and all sympathisers, members and cadres of PDI Perjuangan, as well as the Indonesian people,” Hasto said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

Hasto was accompanied by Sediaman Limbong during the climb of Pusuk Buhit, which stands at approximately 1,982 metres above sea level.

Hasto said the momentum of the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence should be used to strengthen once again the spirit of struggle and the thinking of the nation’s founders.

After completing the climb at around 00.30 WIB, Hasto said he prayed that the values of truth, justice and humanity would continue to be upheld in national life.

“Praying that truth, justice and humanity are truly upheld, and that all leaders fight to liberate the marhaen people. Education, health and a decent livelihood in humanitarian terms. The common people are respected with all their dignity,” he said.

In the area, Hasto also observed the Red and White Flag as well as white, red and black flags that form part of Batak cultural symbolism.

He expressed hope that the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence would further strengthen unity and the commitment to realising justice, humanity, education, health and a decent life for the people.
