Jakarta (ANTARA) – PDI Perjuangan Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto hopes the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and former President Megawati Soekarnoputri will be an opportunity to discuss various strategic issues concerning the nation’s future direction.
Hasto expressed these hopes after attending the Pancasila Birth Anniversary commemoration at the At-Taufiq Mosque courtyard in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Monday.
“She is the Fifth President with extensive experience and a personal rapport with President Prabowo, so the meeting is expected to discuss various strategic issues regarding the nation’s future direction,” Hasto said.
He noted that Prabowo and Megawati’s relationship has been positive, grounded in a shared commitment to maintain national unity and strengthen Pancasila as the foundation of national life.
Following the ceremony, both left the venue smiling and holding hands, as seen in the live broadcast.
“PDI Perjuangan expressed appreciation for President Prabowo’s warm reception of Megawati Soekarnoputri during the Pancasila Birth Anniversary commemorations,” Hasto said.
He added that this warmth reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation and national brotherhood needed to tackle the country’s challenges.
“Megawati and President Prabowo have shown mutual respect as national figures bearing historical responsibility for Indonesia’s future,” he said.
He also highlighted the challenges currently faced by President Prabowo’s administration, including economic, fiscal, governance, and social issues.
According to Hasto, some of these issues are accumulations from recent years, requiring collaboration from all national elements to find solutions.
“PDI Perjuangan stresses the importance of objectivity in assessing the national situation. Thus, national unity and collaboration from all elements are needed to help the government find the best solutions,” he said.
Hasto added that the spirit of Pancasila’s Birth Anniversary should be a moment to strengthen national dialogue, deepen brotherhood among national components, and prioritise people’s interests over short-term political gains.
“Pancasila teaches us to build unity in diversity. In this spirit, the positive relationship between President Prabowo and Megawati should be seen as positive energy for the nation to face future challenges,” Hasto said.
