Hasto on Malang Regent Appointing His Son as Head of Environmental Agency: Not Elegant
PDI Perjuangan Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto has responded to Malang Regent M Sanusi’s appointment of his son Ahmad Dzulfikar Nurrahman as Head of the Environmental Agency (Kadis LH). Hasto said he has requested that the matter be criticised.
It is known that M Sanusi is a PDI Perjuangan cadre. Hasto said he has received information that Sanusi appointed his son as Head of the Environmental Agency.
“Yes, we have received such information. We have asked our PDI Perjuangan faction to criticise this matter. Yes, because in any case, the meritocracy system must be built. We cannot prioritise things outside of that meritocracy,” said Hasto Kristiyanto at the PDI Perjuangan Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Saturday (18/4/2026).
Hasto stated that political education does indeed begin in the family. However, he emphasised that there should be no unfair practices.
“But we also see that political education begins in the family, but the principle is that there should be no unfair practices. That is what is being criticised by PDI Perjuangan,” he said.
Hasto alluded to a Javanese expression regarding the appointment. He said it is not elegant if the father is the regent and the son is the head of an agency.
“So, as Javanese people say, it’s kurang elok. Father is regent, son is head of agency,” he said.
Malang Regent M Sanusi is known to have inaugurated 447 officials in the Malang Regency administration. One of them is Ahmad Dzulfikar Nurrahman, the regent’s own son, who was appointed as Head of the Environmental Agency.
The inauguration ceremony for high-ranking leadership positions (JPTP), administrators, supervisors, to functional positions took place solemnly at the Grand Pendopo of Malang Regency, on Monday (13/4).
Besides Dzulfikar, Sanusi inaugurated three other echelon II officials, namely Nurrahman as Head of Satpol PP, Sujarwo Ady Wijayanto as Head of the Community and Village Empowerment Agency, and Astri Lutfiatunnisa, who holds the position of Head of the Industry and Trade Agency.
In his remarks, Regent Sanusi emphasised that this mutation and inauguration is a strategic step to strengthen good governance. He asked all newly appointed officials to uphold the integrity pact that has been sworn.
“This is part of the Malang Regency Government’s commitment to implementing a personnel management system in good governance,” said Sanusi in his speech, quoted by detikJatim.
