Hasto of PDIP Highlights Solo-Based Character in 'Ghost in the Cell' Screening

The Secretary-General of PDI Perjuangan (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, attended a public screening of the film ‘Ghost in the Cell’ as part of the Bung Karno Month commemorations. During the event, Hasto highlighted the character Prakasa Kitabuming in the film directed by Joko Anwar.

“Joko Anwar very intelligently conveys how there are entrepreneurs who are so greedy that even when arrested and imprisoned for corruption, this businessman named Prakarsa Kitabuming continues to enjoy extraordinary luxury. Furthermore, the social critique stems from a character originally from Solo. His registration number, 21061961, is highly symbolic. This is an intellectually stimulating film,” Hasto told journalists at Megaria, Jakarta, on Sunday (7/6/2026).

In the film ‘Ghost in the Cell’, Prakasa Kitabuming is depicted as a corruption convict from Solo, described as a businessman involved in illegal deforestation.

Returning to Hasto, he stated that ‘Ghost in the Cell’ is filled with social criticism and even urged PDIP cadres to watch the film.

“Joko Anwar reminds us of this, and I believe it is extraordinary. Fellow journalists can see various messages through the names, origins, and prisoner registration numbers. It shows how Indonesia must not allow the situations depicted in ‘Ghost in the Cell’ to occur,” he said.

Furthermore, Hasto mentioned that the film reflects the spirit of resistance once championed by the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno, or Bung Karno—specifically the resistance against capitalism and imperialism, which he believes continues to emerge in new forms.

“Therefore, this serves to inspire us. Bung Karno Month should awaken us all to remain faithful to moral values, idealism, and ethics in our collective life, because we aspire to something great,” he added.
