Hasto highlights rupiah depreciation and corruption during Bung Karno commemoration
The weakening of the rupiah, the decline in the stock market index, the pressure on the real sector, and various corruption cases involving populist policies are the results of poor state governance.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Secretary General of PDI Perjuangan, Hasto Kristiyante, highlighted the depreciation of the rupiah exchange rate and ongoing corruption practices while commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of Indonesia’s first President, Soekarno.
In a press release received in Jakarta on Saturday, Hasto assessed that these conditions are the impact of government governance that is not functioning effectively.
“The weakening of the rupiah, the decline in the stock market index, and the pressure on the real sector, as well as various corruption cases involving populist policies, are the fruits of poor state governance,” said Hasto.
According to him, these conditions are also influenced by a weak legal system that can give rise to various practices of injustice.
“Bung Karno emphasised that what the Indonesian people are fighting against is not the Dutch, but a lust that sucks and causes misery,” he stated.
He emphasised the importance of using Bung Karno’s ‘Trisakti’ as a guide to strengthen the nation, both in legal and economic aspects.
Bung Karno’s Trisakti consists of the principles of being sovereign in politics, self-reliant in economy, and having a personality in culture.
“Bung Karno’s Trisakti is the will, determination, and path to becoming a strong nation to face systems that produce people’s suffering. Bung Karno’s ideas have proven to be the foundation and compass of the nation’s struggle,” he said.
He expressed hope that all parties would use Soekarno’s thoughts as a compass in the effort to advance the nation.
“That is the flame of Bung Karno’s struggle that must continue to be ignited,” said Hasto.
