Hasjim to be tried Thursday

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta District Court is scheduled to commence the trial of businessman Hasjim Djojohadikusumo for alleged malfeasance that caused the state to suffer Rp 4 billion (US$400,000) losses.

Hasjim, the brother of former president Soeharto's son-in-law Prabowo Subianto, is currently under city arrest after the court released him from detention at Salemba Penitentiary in Central Jakarta last week.

"The panel of judges released him from detention with guarantee from his lawyers that the defendant will attend a meeting with investors and a general shareholders meeting," the court spokesman, Andi Samsan Nganro, said.

Judge Rusdy As'ad is assigned as the presiding judge of Hasjim's case with members Andi and I Ketut Gede.

Hasjim, the commissioner of PT Bank Industri will be charged with violating Law No 7/1992 on banking as the bank allegedly violated the legal lending limit without giving notification to the central bank. --JP
