Hashim: Three Million Housing Development Implements Fifth Pillar of Pancasila
Jakarta – Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Head of the Housing Task Force and Special Envoy to the Indonesian President, stated that the three million housing development programme represents an effort to realise Social Justice for All Indonesian People as enshrined in the fifth principle of Pancasila.
Hashim assessed the national housing programme as not merely addressing housing needs but also serving as a concrete government step to address the social inequality still experienced by sections of society.
“The programme we are witnessing today, which we are implementing today, is moving towards the fifth principle so that our people truly experience tangible benefits from the presence of Pancasila as the state ideology,” said Hashim at the Housing Development Launch in support of the Three Million Houses Programme on land assets of PT Kereta Api Indonesia in the Manggarai Station area, Jakarta, on Monday.
According to Hashim, there has long been a perception that housing programmes are enjoyed more by the upper-middle-class population compared to lower-income communities. He explained that the formation of the Housing Task Force two years ago aimed to accelerate the government’s efforts in providing adequate housing for communities whilst reducing the national housing backlog.
“The Housing Task Force was established two years ago to accelerate this process, to fulfil our fifth principle. So that Pancasila is not merely empty slogans,” said Hashim.
The housing backlog is the gap between the number of houses needed by society and the number of houses available.
