Jakarta, Kompas.com – Hashim Djojohadikusumo, head of the Housing Task Force (Satgas Perumahan), said that the three‑million homes programme inaugurated by the administration of President Prabowo Subianto is not only aimed at providing housing for the public but also serves as a motor to drive national economic growth towards eight percent.

Hashim explained that the programme began to be designed when he was tasked with drafting the government’s programme after Prabowo Subianto was elected president.

“We have been thinking about how we can push our economy and how we can achieve 8 percent growth. That is actually the minimum,” Hashim said at the event in support of the Priority Presidential Programme: 3 Million Homes in Cikarang, West Java on Sunday (8 March 2026).

The property and construction industries are seen as having a large multiplier effect on national economic activity.

“The housing industry has a multiplier effect that is very large on the economy. Some estimates put it at around 1.5 times, and some say it could reach up to 2.5 times,” said Hashim, the younger brother of Prabowo Subianto.

Hashim added that every investment poured into the housing sector can spur economic activity in various fields related to construction and the sourcing of household needs.

He noted that there are at least about 185 economic sectors directly related to property, construction, and housing businesses.

“Every rupiah we spend on the housing sector delivers a significant economic impact because there are around 185 economic sectors linked to property, construction, and housing,” he said.

In addition, large-scale housing development will create new demand for a range of household products, from furniture to electronics.

He assesses that the housing sector could become one of the main drivers of economic growth because its impact spreads widely to other industry sectors.

Based on calculations by his team, the housing sector’s contribution to national economic growth is estimated to reach around 1.5 to 2 percent.

“I am very confident, and the President is very confident, that we can achieve eight percent economic growth. Because even from the housing sector alone we have calculated its contribution could be around 1.5 to 2 percent,” Hashim said.

The three‑million homes programme itself is aimed at increasing housing availability for the public while also boosting economic activity through massive housing infrastructure development across various regions.

Hashim said the government hopes the programme will not only accelerate the property sector but also deliver broad economic impacts for the public and the business world.

“This is truly Indonesia Incorporated. We want to deliver something extraordinary for the Indonesian nation,” he said.
