JAKARTA — Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the brother of President Prabowo Subianto, disclosed that Indonesia performs poorly in terms of public health.

Indonesia ranks as the second-worst country globally for tuberculosis (TB) cases, second only to India.

“We already know that Indonesia is the second-worst country in health, particularly regarding TB. Only one country is worse than Indonesia, and that is India, in terms of TB prevalence. Tuberculosis is a lung disease,” Hashim said during the inauguration of vertical housing development at Manggarai Station in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

The head of the Housing Task Force stated his remarks had been validated through a free health screening programme that has reached 72 million people.

“And I heard from the Minister of Health and Vice Minister of Health, both of them confirmed that indeed, many of our children and people suffer from TB. This is a catastrophe for the Indonesian nation — TB and stunting,” he explained.

“What is the cause? It is caused by housing located in slum areas. Slums in India and slums in Indonesia cause many of our children to contract TB,” Hashim continued.

“Health barriers and so on affect academic achievement and school average scores are low. Because of health and environment,” he added.

Earlier, President Prabowo revealed that the 2026 State Budget would finance 770,000 houses as part of the 3 Million Houses Programme. The president explained that the programme would be implemented through various schemes, including the Housing Finance Liquidity Facility (FLPP), housing subsidy programmes, and VAT exemption incentives.

“The number of houses to receive 2026 budget support is 770,000 units,” President Prabowo stated during the presentation of the 2026 State Budget Bill and Financial Note on Friday, 15 August 2025.

The government has allocated 57.7 trillion rupiah for the 3 Million Houses Programme in 2026. This allocation will finance 770,000 housing units through various programmes. First, through the Housing Finance Liquidity Facility (FLPP) amounting to 33.5 trillion rupiah.
