Hashim Says Prabowo Asked Why Housing Programme Is Moving Slowly
Jakarta — Hashim Djojohadikusumo, head of the Housing Development Acceleration Task Force, disclosed that President Prabowo Subianto recently questioned him about the realisation of the 3 Million Houses programme. Hashim made this statement during the inauguration of vertical housing development at Manggarai Station, Jakarta, on Monday, 16 March 2026.
The event was also attended by Infrastructure and Regional Development Coordinating Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlements Fahri Hamzah, and PT KAI (Persero) President Director Bobby Rasyidin.
“I must be frank, several weeks ago I met with the president to discuss this programme (3 Million Houses). He asked, ‘Why is the housing programme moving slowly?’ It seemed slow to him, that’s the impression in the president’s mind,” Hashim said during his remarks.
The Presidential Special Envoy for Climate and Energy then explained that bureaucracy remains a significant obstacle.
“The Housing Ministry is a new ministry, only a year old, and so on. But actually the president wants speed and, to be frank, I can see I will be able to report to him that, with participation from PT KAI colleagues, it will soon be realised,” Hashim stated.
Hashim explained that the housing programme is also being simultaneously developed in Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya.
Furthermore, he expressed his desire to eliminate the perception that homeownership is only achievable for the upper-middle class. The Housing Development Acceleration Task Force was therefore established to facilitate housing ownership across all segments of society.
“To fulfil our fifth principle so that Pancasila is not merely an empty slogan,” he said. “So that people truly feel the tangible benefits of Pancasila’s presence as the state ideology, not just talk. No action, talk only,” he added.
