Hashim Reveals Prabowo's Frustrations Over Programme Implementation

President Prabowo Subianto has frequently confided in his younger brother, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, about his frustrations with government programmes. Hashim, who serves as the Presidential Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, revealed that Prabowo believes some government initiatives have noble and excellent objectives but fall short in their execution. “We have witnessed, I need not mention them, but we have seen several good programmes whose implementation has been less than satisfactory,” Hashim stated during the launch of the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) in Jakarta on Thursday, 9 July 2026. Hashim added that his brother also confided about issues within the Indonesian bureaucracy. However, as a younger sibling, he expressed pride in the current state of the bureaucracy with the introduction of the SRUK into the carbon trading ecosystem. The SRUK is the latest national system for recording, issuing, tracking, transferring, and retiring carbon units from circulation after use. The system is part of the implementation of the carbon economic value (NEK) managed by the Ministry of Environment. According to Hashim, the system provided by the central government is flawless, but its success requires cooperation from regional governments. “Domestic businesses and foreign investors are already waiting for the Indonesian government’s system,” he said. Chair of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, said the SRUK ensures transparent and credible carbon unit recording. She noted that the success of carbon trading depends on the integration of the SRUK with the carbon exchange. “The SRUK integrated with the carbon exchange becomes a single source of truth for accurate and timely market supervision, resulting in targeted policies,” Friderica said. The system also aims to enhance carbon market integrity, guard against excessive speculation, and prevent greenwashing practices involving unilateral claims of environmental commitment.
