Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Environment Hashim Djojohadikusumo has revealed that Indonesia has obtained a commitment for oil supplies from Russia. The total volume amounts to 150 million barrels at a special price. “Indonesia now has a commitment from the Russian government; we can store 150 million barrels in Indonesia to address economic turbulence issues,” Hashim stated at the Economic Briefing 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2026). Hashim explained that in the initial phase, Russia has approved the delivery of 100 million barrels of oil. An additional 50 million barrels are prepared if needs increase. “So, he (Prabowo) didn’t go to Moscow for leisure. He went to Moscow, met President Putin for three hours, and obtained a commitment from President Putin,” Hashim said. Russia is becoming one of the alternative energy suppliers for Indonesia. This role strengthens amid global pressures due to conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Discussions on purchasing liquefied petroleum gas or LPG from Russia are still ongoing. The portion of imports relative to national needs has not yet been decided. This step is part of the strategy to maintain energy supplies. The government is also promoting diversification of energy sources to reduce risks from global disruptions. “So, there must be diversification. Insya Allah, our crude will improve further,” said Bahlil.
