Hashim Rejects Offer to Develop 3 Million People's Housing Project Despite Potential Five-Fold Profit

JAKARTA — Hashim Djojohadikusumo, head of the Presidential Housing Task Force and brother of President Prabowo Subianto, has revealed that he was offered the opportunity to undertake the government’s 3 million people’s housing project.

Hashim stated that someone had approached him to profit from the people’s housing programme.

“To be frank, someone told me, ‘Sir Hashim, we can make a profit in strategic locations. You could request 1,000 apartments, 500 apartments. We could sell them and make five times the profit,’” Hashim said during the inauguration of vertical housing development at Manggarai Station in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

He reminded Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Fahri Hamzah that the programme is intended for ordinary people.

Subsequently, Hashim cautioned the government to ensure quality in the people’s housing programme.

He warned against disappointing citizens who find that government-built homes fail to meet expectations.

“I have heard many cases from Ara Sirait about how people’s housing has often been misappropriated. We must not disappoint our people. We already know about these mark-up practices and all the rest,” Hashim added.

“We have agreed, and I have agreed personally, that neither I nor my family will participate — these are all contractors, we have no involvement,” Hashim stated.

Initially, Hashim recalled his cement factory, which he sold around 2000-2001.

Hashim then imagined the potential profits he would have gained from the current programme had he still owned the cement factory.

However, he affirmed that he would not be involved in any business related to the 3 million housing project.

“With this programme if I still had my cement factory, it would be extraordinary. But that is over,” he said.
