Hashim: Pupuk Indonesia Capable of Maintaining Supply Amid Global Geopolitical Turmoil
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Hashim Djojohadikusumo stated that PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) is capable of maintaining fertiliser supplies amid global geopolitical turbulence.
“At a time when many countries are facing supply disruptions, Indonesia is in a relatively safe position,” Hashim said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday.
According to him, several countries are even looking to Indonesia to meet their fertiliser needs.
“We are fortunate due to the hard work and preparations by the Pupuk Indonesia team,” Hashim remarked.
He mentioned that many neighbouring countries have requested fertiliser supplies from Indonesia, particularly for urea fertiliser.
“Many of our neighbouring countries have made requests,” Hashim said.
Furthermore, he noted that Australia plans to import 250,000 tonnes of urea from Indonesia.
In addition, requests have also come from India, which is said to need up to 500,000 tonnes, as well as several other countries.
“This shows that Indonesia is quite fortunate in terms of urea,” Hashim stated.
He explained that this is inseparable from the government’s role in implementing the right strategies to support the fertiliser industry.
He revealed that the government has implemented the appropriate strategy because fertiliser is a critical agro-input.
“Without fertiliser, we certainly cannot talk about agricultural productivity,” Rahmad stated.
That strategy, he continued, is reflected in government policy through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 6 of 2025 on the Governance of Subsidised Fertilisers, which was later updated to Perpres Number 113 of 2025.
In addition, that policy also emphasises the importance of ensuring the availability and affordability of fertiliser for farmers.
On the other hand, Rahmad emphasised that fertiliser has a systemic impact on food security, so it must be guaranteed by two things: availability and affordability.
“Speaking of availability, this not only ensures that our factories can operate, but also ensures that fertiliser can be received by farmers in accordance with the 7 Tepat principles,” Rahmad added.
