Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Hashim Djojohadikusumo stated that the government is committed to ensuring that Indonesia’s carbon trade possesses high quality and integrity. “The government wants to ensure that every carbon unit traded is of high quality and high integrity, which is in demand by international markets,” Hashim said during a press conference at the Dr. Soedjarwo Auditorium, Manggala Wanabakti Building, Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) RI, Jakarta, on Wednesday. He added that the government has strengthened regulations related to Indonesia’s carbon trading activities through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 110 of 2025 on the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value Instruments and National Greenhouse Gas Emission Control. Furthermore, Hashim said this regulation has been further reinforced by Forestry Ministry Regulation No. 6 of 2026 on Procedures for Carbon Trading through Greenhouse Gas Emission Offsets in the Forestry Sector, which was promulgated on 13 April 2026. “This regulation is built by placing transparency, accountability, and environmental integrity as the main foundations,” he stated. Hashim explained that Forestry Ministry Regulation No. 6 of 2026 also aims to provide certainty, procedures, clear mechanisms, and main principles in organising carbon trading in the forestry sector. He assessed that the success of the policy is not only determined by the written rules but also by the understanding and commitment of the relevant stakeholders. This, he continued, will demonstrate to the international world that Indonesia is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from all elements, namely the central government, local governments, private sector, and indigenous communities. “Now, the operationalisation of Perpres No. 110 is implemented, strengthened, and affirmed by the Forestry Ministry Regulation. This shows the seriousness of the Indonesian government in reducing carbon emissions,” said Hashim. “The existence of this carbon market is to facilitate; this is a programme to reduce carbon emissions. This is proof of the seriousness and determination of the Indonesian government,” he added.
