Hasanuddin University Responds to Voice Note Sent by Female Student Before Her Death
Hasanuddin University (Unhas) student PJT, 19, from the Faculty of Engineering, sent a voice note to several campus friends before she was found dead near the campus area in Gowa, South Sulawesi. The voice note was also forwarded to the victim’s parents. ‘Before the incident, the victim sent voice messages to other friends. Then the messages were forwarded to her parents,’ said Ishaq Rahman, Head of Public Relations at Unhas, in a statement on Tuesday (19 May).
In the voice note, the victim asked that she be searched at the parking area behind the Architecture Engineering building, as she feared she might not be alive. ‘If you get this voice note, it is likely that I am no longer here; if there is time, please find me there, at the parking behind the Architecture Engineering Building, because I might jump,’ PJT said in the recording. She also asked that no one blame themselves for her acts.
‘And then we’ll meet there; basically, a lot happened because it’s my own will. Please don’t blame yourselves for this and thank you. Honestly, I don’t know why this could be,’ she said.
Earlier, a female student from the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University was found dead after allegedly jumping from a building near the campus in Gowa, South Sulawesi. Police are still investigating the cause of death.
‘Yes, the victim was found dead; she did not jump,’ said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Gowa Police, IPDA Andi Muhammad Alfian, to CNNIndonesia.com on Tuesday (19 May). Alfian explained that early examinations of the body’s state showed no signs of fracture or violence.
‘Looking at the condition of the body, there are no broken bones, no serious injuries,’ he said.
Nevertheless, Alfian admitted they cannot determine the exact cause of death yet, as the family refused to permit an autopsy. ‘[Is there a medical condition?] We do not know yet. It was not autopsied because the father did not want his child autopsied,’ he said.
