Hasanuddin University designs BRIONIC to accelerate downstreaming of research results
Hasanuddin University (Unhas) is designing the formation of the ‘BRIN Unhas Innovation Center’ (BRIONIC) to accelerate the downstreaming of innovation and research results produced by students and faculty.
In a statement in Makassar on Tuesday, the Rector of Unhas, Professor Dr Jamaluddin Jompa, expressed hope that this innovation centre would be able to integrate research, innovation, industry, and technology-based entrepreneurship into a single ecosystem. This ecosystem is intended to support the creation of innovative solutions to address Indonesia’s development challenges, particularly in the eastern region.
He explained that Unhas has currently produced nearly 100 innovation prototypes that require the support of a research and industrial ecosystem to be further developed and to provide tangible benefits to society.
“We hope that BRIONIC can serve as a catalyst for research and innovation collaboration in Eastern Indonesia, bringing together the strengths of academia, research, industry, and government to produce impactful solutions for the community,” explained Prof Jamaluddin Jompa.
Furthermore, Prof Jompa noted that the partnership between Unhas and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has continued to develop productively since 2021. Various collaborations between Unhas and BRIN have been established in strategic fields, ranging from archaeology, biodiversity, and maritime studies to health, as well as the development of materials and biomass to support the national green economy and bioeconomy agendas.
The long-term target is to establish Unhas as a BRIN research hub for the Eastern Indonesian region, enabling it to become a centre for the development of science, innovation, and technological downstreaming that contributes to national development.
