Hasanuddin Airport declares flight operations back to normal

Makassar (ANTARA) - The management of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, has declared that flight operations have returned to normal after a Navy (TNI AL) Cassa aircraft that skidded on the north-south runway was successfully evacuated.

“The evacuation process for the Cassa aircraft has been completed, so it no longer disrupts flight operations at the airport,” said Taufan Yudhistira, PGS Branch Communication and CSR Department Head of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, in Maros Regency on Tuesday.

He said the Cassa aircraft had previously skidded on runway 03-21. Airport officers and related parties then carried out handling and evacuated the aircraft from the runway area.

The evacuation process was carried out using a special aircraft tow truck and was completed at around 15.15 Central Indonesia Time (WITA). The aircraft was then moved to a safe location for further inspection.

After the Cassa aircraft was successfully evacuated, the management of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport confirmed that flight operations were running normally again.

“Alhamdulillah, both runways can now be used and flight operations have returned to normal,” said Taufan.

The Cassa aircraft incident occurred a day after an Air Force (TNI AU) Sukhoi fighter jet also experienced a skidding incident at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport on Monday (24/8).

For the Cassa incident, the aircraft skidded on runway 03-21, while the Sukhoi fighter jet previously experienced an incident on the western runway.

To date, the exact cause of the Cassa aircraft skidding has not been officially announced. Inspection of the aircraft and the investigation process are still being carried out by related parties.

The management of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport also continues to coordinate with the TNI and relevant agencies to ensure that aviation safety and security aspects are maintained.
