Hasan's OCA status in question

JAKARTA (JP): Vice Chairman of the National Sports Council (KONI) Harsuki said that the Chairman of the SEAG Federation Tan Sri Imran Ibni Tuanku Jafar had inquired about the legal status of the OCA's Vice President for the Southeast Asia zone Mohammad 'Bob' Hasan from Indonesia.

The timber tycoon is the defendant in an alleged fraudulent forest aerial mapping project between 1989 and 1999.

"Tan Sri Imran has asked about Bob Hasan's status in a bid to ensure that Southeast Asian sports development will not be allowed to stagnate. If Hasan can resume the job, he will hold the post until 2003."

"If he fails to do so, the member countries have asked us to name his replacement to ensure that the Games go ahead smoothly. KONI vice chairman Arie Sudewo has suggested that Hasan should be replaced but that his successor must be Indonesian so that he or she can defend Indonesia's interest. We will ask Hasan to name his successor," he said.

The SEA Games will take place in Kuala Lumpur in September. (ivy)
