Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Head of the Presidential Office Hasan Nasbi stated that statements provoking the government are inappropriate at this time, amid ongoing global dynamics. In the current situation, he believes unity is essential so that the Indonesian nation can overcome various global challenges. “When the world economy is in disarray, the global security situation is also not good, with hot weather outside and many conflicts abroad. Yet, domestically, those who claim to be democracy fighters are also heating up the atmosphere,” Hasan said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday. He made these remarks in response to a statement from a survey institute leader that was allegedly provocative towards the government. Hasan expressed dismay at the provocative statement from that survey institute leader. He accused the leader of wanting to topple the legitimate government without going through democratic processes simply because the incumbent is not the side he supported in the 2024 election. “They claim to be democracy fighters, but they never understand the essence of democracy. Power struggles in democracy are facilitated through elections,” he said. He also regretted that the provocation came from a survey institute leader who is also an expert in political science. In fact, public satisfaction with the current government is high. According to him, the survey institute leader operates within a democratic system but does not respect the democratic processes that have been established. Nevertheless, he stated that criticism is a normal part of the democratic process. However, provocation to topple a legitimate government without constitutional processes is a violation of democracy. “If the government does not commit violations, does not make mistakes that breach the law, does not violate the constitution, but you want to incite the public to topple the president because your feelings are not fulfilled, because your desires are not achieved, that is something unacceptable,” he said.
