Hasan Nasbi States Prabowo-Megawati Relationship Remains Good Despite Differences
JAKARTA — The Special Adviser to the President for Communications, Hasan Nasbi, stated that the relationship between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, remains good despite their differences. “There are differences. But the relationship remains good,” Hasan said when asked for confirmation on Tuesday (2/6/202<0xA0>6).
This was stated by Hasan in response to the visible closeness between Prabowo and Megawati, who were seen holding hands while attending the Pancasila Day ceremony on Monday (1/6/2026). “He does not have an emotional distance from the President or his predecessors,” he remarked.
Hasan did not provide a direct answer when questioned regarding any specific signs or agendas behind the closeness between Prabowo and Megawati. He only emphasised that Prabowo always prioritises national unity. “The President certainly prioritises the agenda of national unity,” said Hasan.
Based on photos released by the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo and Megawati were seen holding hands after the ceremony had concluded. Both leaders were seen smiling broadly. Additionally, photos showed Prabowo and Megawati meeting primary school children carrying the Red and White flag. Other images depicted Prabowo and Megawati sitting side-by-side in a room at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, set against a backdrop of former Foreign Ministers. Also present in the room were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the 13th Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Chairman of the DPD Sultan Najamuddin, Chairman of the MPR Ahmad Muzani, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
