Hartono to mark retirement

MAGELANG, Central Java (JP): Minister of Information R. Hartono will be among the 88 high-ranking army officers who will take part in a ceremony here next month symbolically marking their retirement.

The ceremony will be held on Nov. 11 in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Military Academy.

Hartono, who was Army chief of staff, retired in June prior to being appointed minister of information. He held the rank of general.

Another notable who will participate in the retirement ceremony is former Deputy Army Chief Lt. Gen. Soedjasmin.

Military Academy Governor Maj. Gen. Djoko Subroto said yesterday that Army Chief of Staff Gen. Wiranto would serve as inspector at the ceremony.

Djoko said that to commemorate the academy's anniversary, a seminar would also be held on Nov. 7 to Nov. 8.

An impressive list of speakers is slated to address the seminar from both the military and nonmilitary field, such as Minister of Defense and Security Edi Sudradjat, Army Special Force commander Maj. Gen. Prabowo Subianto, and political scientists Yusril Ihza Mahendra and Amir Santoso. (har)
