Harsh Reprimand from BP BUMN Head to PTPN as Elderly Mujiran Freed

Elderly man Mujiran from Lampung Selatan has been freed from legal proceedings over the collection of rubber sap residues after BP BUMN head Dony Oskaria intervened. Dony, who also serves as Chief Operating Officer of Danantara Asset Management, condemned PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) for criminalising a vulnerable elderly individual, stating state-owned enterprises must serve the public with humanity, not punitive measures.

Dony issued three directives to PTPN’s management: immediately withdraw the legal complaint and halt all proceedings against Mujiran; issue an institutional apology through local leadership; and provide social assistance and suitable employment for Mujiran or his family. He stressed that welfare issues should be resolved through support, not prosecution, and that BUMNs must act as protectors, not instruments of incarceration.

PTPN has since halted all legal action, issued a formal apology, and committed to implementing restorative justice measures. The company acknowledged lapses in field officers’ responses and pledged to recalibrate asset protection protocols to balance social responsibility with corporate duties. BP BUMN has marked the case as a red flag for all state-owned enterprises, requiring comprehensive reviews of their standard operating procedures to ensure humanistic and restorative approaches in future disputes.
