Temasek Foundation, together with the 5P Global Movement, has launched the Harmony in Diversity Award to honour individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to building harmony in culturally diverse societies across Southeast Asia. “By appreciating inspiring change agents, this award aims to raise awareness of various harmony initiatives in the region, encourage meaningful dialogue, and strengthen the network of individuals and organisations committed to advancing harmony in Southeast Asia,” said William Sabandar, Chairman of 5P Global Movement Indonesia, during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday. He noted that the initiative reflects the shared aspirations of countries in the region to strengthen mutual understanding amidst increasingly diverse societies. “Diversity is one of Southeast Asia’s greatest strengths. But harmony does not happen by itself. It is built through dialogue, trust, and leadership in everyday life,” he said. Sabandar explained that the award recognises individuals who have dedicated their lives to such efforts, while also aiming to inspire more people across the region to become peacebuilders in their own communities. “Tomorrow we will honour one remarkable figure. But in essence, this initiative is about the thousands of people across Southeast Asia who, through simple daily actions, strengthen trust, mutual understanding, and harmony within society,” he added. He expressed hope that the award would become a platform connecting these inspirational stories, fostering collaboration, and inspiring future generations. Senior Director of Temasek Foundation, Ling Pei Shan, stated that the award is part of a broader commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities through partnerships and shared purpose. “At Temasek Foundation, our work is guided by four strategic priorities: planet, people, peace, and progress, all strengthened through partnerships. We believe that peace is the foundation for people, planet, and progress. Without peace, communities cannot thrive and many lives will be disrupted. This award reflects our commitment to advancing peace by honouring those who strengthen trust, mutual understanding, and harmony within society,” she said. Filipino Cardinal Orlando Beltran Quevedo will receive the inaugural Harmony in Diversity Award for his decades-long dedication to peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue in Mindanao.
