Harmful chemicals in 'jamu'

A recent analysis by the Food and Drugs Control Agency (POM) revealed that the following traditional tonics contain chemicals classified as potent and as such harmful to health:

1. Jamu Kuat Lelaki No.5 (an aphrodisiac), in powder form, produced by Perusahaan Jamu (PJ) Suharto Jaya Dipa, Bandung, No. TR 933268111. Contains antalgin.

2. Jamu Darah Tinggi No.6 (tonic for hypertension),in powder form, produced by PJ Suharto Jaya Dipa, Bandung, No.TR 953277931. Contains furosemid.

3. Jamu Asma No.7 (tonic for asthma), in powder form, produced by PJ Suharto Jaya Dipa, Bandung, No TR 953277921. Contains teofilin

4. Jamu Penenang No.11 (tonic to soothe and calm), produced by PJ Suharto Jaya Dipa, Bandung, No TR 933268901. Contains Diazepam.

Accordingly, we hereby ask the public not to consume the above mentioned traditional tonics as they may be harmful to your health.

These particular tonics are no longer approved by POM.
