Harkitnas Demonstrations at Several Points in Jakarta, 14,000 Personnel Deployed

On Wednesday, 20 May 2026, the Metro Jaya Regional Police deployed a combined 14,237 personnel to secure demonstrations marking National Awakening Day (Hakitnas) 2026 at several points in Jakarta.

Public Relations Head of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, said that together with Kodam Jaya they were preparing services and security at several points, including the DPR/MPR RI, Monas/Silang Selatan, the Attorney General’s Office, Gedung Pelni, Bawaslu RI and the Proclamation Monument.

“The Metro Jaya Police, together with Kodam Jaya, are preparing for public expression of opinion in a public gathering, including arrangements related to traffic flow,” Budi said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The tens of thousands of combined personnel consist of 12,263 Polri personnel, 500 TNI personnel, 74 local government personnel, 400 DPR/MPR RI security staff and 1,000 Sabuk Kamtibmas/Potmas volunteers.”

“The presence of personnel on the ground is to provide a sense of security and smooth conveyance of aspirations by our brothers and sisters from several elements of society,” Budi said.

“Budi added that traffic management around the protest sites would be conducted on a situational basis, adapting to field conditions.”

“However, the police urged the public to follow the directions of on-site officers to keep activities running smoothly.”

“We respect the public’s right to express opinions as it is a right protected by law. We also urge all participants to jointly safeguard public and social facilities, and to show mutual respect towards the TNI-Polri officers on the ground,” Budi said.
