Hardiknas Student Protest in Central Jakarta Disbands, Traffic Congested

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Students who held a demonstration to commemorate National Education Day in front of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology building in Central Jakarta dispersed on Monday afternoon (4/5/2026). The crowd fully dispersed around 5:45 PM local time after being met by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Fauzan, who received their aspirations. Initially, the students lingered at the protest site, feeling unsatisfied with the deputy minister’s responses. Traffic conditions on Jalan Pintu Satu Senayan, Gelora, Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta returned to normal after the crowd dispersed. Roads that had been closed due to the action were reopened, particularly those leading to Jalan Asia Afrika. Drivers coming from Jalan Jenderal Sudirman can now pass through Jalan Pintu Satu Senayan towards Jalan Asia Afrika. However, traffic flow along Jalan Pintu Satu Senayan is experiencing congestion, especially at the U-turn point in front of fX Sudirman mall and in the area exiting Gate 5 of the Gelora Bung Karno complex.
