Hardiknas Protest in Front of Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Closes Pintu Satu Senayan Road Towards GBK

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Students held a protest in front of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology building to commemorate National Education Day (Hardiknas) on Saturday (4/5/2026). The students staged their action directly in the area in front of the building, blocking Pintu Satu Senayan Road leading to Jalan Asia Afrika. This was because a command vehicle belonging to the Cipayung Plus student group was placed in the middle of the road. The road was then closed starting from the area in front of Senayan Gate at the fX Sudirman mall using several water barriers. Drivers heading from Jalan Jenderal Sudirman towards Jalan Asia Afrika had to take an alternative route around the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area. Drivers could also take other alternative routes by turning via Jalan Gatot Subroto and then onto Jalan Gerbang Pemuda in front of the Jakarta Convention Center. Meanwhile, traffic flow from Jalan Asia Afrika towards Jalan Jenderal Sudirman was observed to be normal without any disruptions. Previously reported, students from the Cipayung Plus group held an action in front of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology building on Pintu Satu Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (4/5/2026). Based on observations by Kompas.com at the location, the action began around 14:10 WIB, with several extra-campus organisations affiliated with the Cipayung Plus alliance gathering and starting the protest. In their speeches, several students highlighted the fact that many people in remote areas still cannot access education due to unaffordable costs. “How many children in the regions cannot get education because they lack money, yet the education budget is not prioritised for them,” said one orator from the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI) atop the command vehicle.
