Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, has emphasised that education is essentially a process of enlightening the nation’s life and civilisation, making the commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) an important moment to reaffirm that commitment.

He conveyed this assertion in his address while leading the Hardiknas commemoration ceremony in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province.

“Education is a process of nurturing and developing human potential, thereby creating individuals who are faithful and pious to Almighty God, of noble character, intelligent, skilled, independent, physically and spiritually healthy, honest, responsible, democratic, and possessing other superior traits,” said Mendikdasmen Mu’ti in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

This approach, he said, positions the learning process as a meaningful experience centred on the holistic development of students’ potential.

“A popular adage states: if you wish to advance the nation, improve education. If you wish to improve education, start from within the classroom. Deep Learning is the effort intended to achieve the ideal goals of national education,” he said.

To support this implementation, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has established several strategic policies. One of them is the Revitalisation of Educational Units and Learning Digitalisation programme, which is also part of President Prabowo Subianto’s Quick Wins Programme (PHTC).

This programme, Mu’ti said, has brought tangible impacts to the world of education. In 2025, the revitalisation programme has reached 16,167 educational units.

He added that the Learning Digitalisation programme through the provision of Interactive Flat Panels (IFP) has also been utilised in more than 288,000 educational units.

In addition, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education continues to promote character building through the creation of safe and comfortable school environments and cultures, the implementation of the Clean, Healthy, Neat, and Beautiful (Asri) culture, so that schools can become a second home for all students.

On the other hand, he continued, improving the quality of learning is further strengthened through enhancements in literacy, numeracy, STEM, and Academic Ability Tests (TKA).

“These efforts are also accompanied by expanding access to more accessible, affordable, and flexible educational services through various schemes, such as one-roof schools, distance education, learning communities, and open schools,” said Mu’ti.

Therefore, he invited all elements of the nation to continue strengthening cooperation in advancing education. “Let us strengthen cooperation to realise quality education for all towards a smart, advanced, and dignified Indonesia,” he said.
