JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) Fajar Riza Ul Haq stated that the commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) serves as a moment for reflection to strengthen the direction of national education transformation.

“Education does not only function as a transfer of knowledge, but also as a process of humanising humanity, building character, and preparing generations capable of addressing the challenges of the times,” said Wamendikdasmen Fajar in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday (3/5/2026).

With the theme “Strengthening Universal Participation to Realise Quality Education for All”, he said this year’s Hardiknas commemoration emphasises the importance of involving all elements in delivering equitable and quality educational services.

These three momenta, he said, reflect the close interconnection between education, environmental sustainability, and regional governance in building the nation’s future.

In line with the mandate of the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Wamendikdasmen Fajar stated that education is a process of humanising humanity that goes beyond mere knowledge transfer, but also nurtures potential, builds character, and honours humans as dignified beings.

Education, he continued, is expected to shape learners who are faithful, of noble character, intelligent, skilled, and ready to face the challenges of the times.

Therefore, educational transformation no longer relies on old approaches, but moves towards deeper learning so that learners not only know, but also understand, think critically, and are able to create.

On that occasion, Wamendikdasmen Fajar also emphasised that teachers are the main key in improving the quality of education. Therefore, enhancing teacher competencies and welfare continues to be a government priority.

“Teachers are the centre of change. Investment in teachers is a long-term investment for our education’s future,” said Wamendikdasmen Fajar Riza Ul Haq.
