Executive Director of Amnesty International Indonesia, Usman Hamid, has urged the President and the DPR to promptly establish an independent Fact-Finding Team (TPF) to probe the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

Usman highlighted discrepancies in data between the police and the TNI regarding the number and identities of the perpetrators, which he believes is causing confusion among the public.

“We are concerned that the police and military are operating independently. The police released two initials of the perpetrators (BHC and MAK), but the TNI Danpuspom suddenly released four initials of TNI members (NDP, SL, BHW, and ES) without clarity on evidence and each one’s role,” Usman stated in his remarks on Thursday (26/3/2026).

To ensure objectivity, Usman urged the President to involve civil society and figures of integrity in the TPF. Additionally, he encouraged the DPR to play a maximal role through the formation of a TPF involving Commissions I and III.

“Without maximal DPR involvement, this case risks grinding to a halt midway. This is not merely an ordinary criminal act, but systematic terror designed to silence critical voices,” Usman added.

Usman also spotlighted the TNI Kapuspen’s announcement of the resignation of TNI BAIS Head Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo. Usman assessed that the term carries more political than juridical connotations.

“That resignation must be directed towards juridical accountability in the general courts. The state must process this case in the general courts, not military ones, in accordance with Tap MPR No. VII/2000 and the TNI Law that soldiers committing general criminal acts must submit to the general courts,” he said.

Previously, four TNI soldiers from the Denma BAIS unit have been named as suspects in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus and have been detained at Pomdam Jaya since 18 March 2026. TNI Kapuspen, Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, previously asked the public to be patient while awaiting the results of the investigation being conducted by the TNI Puspom.

Amnesty International Indonesia has urged the President and the DPR to immediately form a fact-finding team (TPF) to ensure that the legal process runs transparently and accountably.

Transparency in the legal process against the four alleged perpetrators, namely Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES, is at stake.
