Handling NTT Earthquake Victims, Indonesia Does Not Yet Need US Assistance

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia has stated that Indonesia continues to utilise its national capacity and resources to deal with the impact of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara. Indonesia does not yet require foreign assistance.

“At present, the focus of the response is to ensure that the needs of the affected communities can be met through the national capacity and resources that we have,” said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang during a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.

Nevertheless, Indonesia always appreciates the attention and messages of solidarity from friendly nations regarding the disaster in East Nusa Tenggara, as well as their offers of assistance to help the victims and restore the situation following the earthquake.

Yvonne revealed that Foreign Minister Sugiono has personally conveyed the Indonesian government’s gratitude to a number of ambassadors from friendly nations for their concern. “We consider this to be deeply meaningful for us during this difficult time,” she said.
