Handling NTT Earthquake Impact, Tito Ensures Civil Registration Services Continue

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian attended a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss handling the impact of the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). The meeting took place at Infantry Battalion 834/WM in Nagekeo Regency, NTT, on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

In the forum, Tito conveyed a number of support measures from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to assist with post-earthquake handling. This support ranges from helping affected residents process damaged civil registration documents to ensuring that the Presidential Assistance in the form of additional Unexpected Expenditure (BTT) is used optimally by the local government.

Tito explained that his ministry has deployed a team from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) to assist with issuing civil registration documents for affected residents. Based on the results of the review, many residents have had their civil registration documents damaged or lost due to the disaster.

“When we came to the location yesterday, there were many requests, asking for their documents to be restored. Specifically for Dukcapil, we sent a special team to reprint ID cards, family cards, and others,” he said.

Tito has also coordinated with the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Nusron Wahid to reissue lost certificates. In addition, coordination was also carried out with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to issue lost documents such as driving licences, vehicle registration certificates, and vehicle ownership books. “We also asked the National Police Chief to assign this without payment, free of charge,” he explained.

On the other hand, Kemendagri has also assigned a special team to assist with the use of Presidential Assistance that has been distributed to the NTT Provincial Government and eight affected regencies. The total funds distributed reached Rp200 billion, divided into Rp40 billion for the NTT Provincial Government and Rp20 billion for each regency.

The funds can be used to meet the logistical needs of affected residents, including those sheltering in tents and those in remote areas. “What is feared now is that people are in tents, either because their houses are damaged or because they fear aftershocks. So the priority scale that needs to be increased is logistics,” he said.

Not only that, Tito also encouraged all regents to record houses with light, moderate, and heavy damage. The data collection needs to involve the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) so that the verification process is faster. This data is important because it serves as a reference for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in providing assistance.

“For light damage it is Rp15 million, Rp30 million for moderate, heavy damage is Rp60 million, now it has increased to Rp70 million. So, once it is declared stable [no more aftershocks], they will have received the money and they can all rebuild,” he explained.

As additional information, the Home Affairs Minister, along with several leaders of ministries and agencies who were part of the entourage, also accompanied President Prabowo to inspect the evacuation post at Berdikari Field, Nagekeo Regency.
