JAKARTA, May 24 (Bernama) -- With a track record of having delivered offshore pedestal cranes with zero defect and zero warranty call-outs, Handal Offshore Services Sdn Bhd (Handal), is now expanding its business to Indonesia.

The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Handal Resources Bhd, which recorded a post-tax profit of RM14.8 million in FY2009, an increase of 60 percent from the RM9.2 million recorded previously.

Handal Executive Chairman Datuk Mohsin Abdul Halim said the company is being introduced in Indonesia and has also identified a local partner.

He also said that the company, through its representative in Indonesia, has been shortlisted for offshore crane maintenance work by the Indonesian national oil company, Pertamina.

"We participated in the 34th Annual Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) convention and exhibition here from May 18-20, to enable people to get to know our products and the services." he told Bernama in an interview.

The participation was also aimed at gaining an insight into and information on potential opportunities in the Indonesian oil and gas industry.

Handal is an offshore crane manufacturing and servicing company that specialises in offshore pedestal mounted cranes.

Mohsin said Handal believes it is needed in Indonesia as its services are not being offered by any other company in the country, as is the case in Malaysia.

Its comprehensive range of services include structural fabrication, operation, inspection, maintenance and repair programmes for all makes of cranes, apart from providing in-situ upgrades, statistical analysis and structural modification.

Mohsin said the main activity of the company is servicing, maintaining and overhauling of offshore pedestal cranes for Exxon Mobil and Pertronas Carigali.

"We have term contract for these activities today with three oil ventures, Exxon Mobil, Petronas Carigali and Talisman, a Canadian oil production company.

"Petronas has also licensed us under the Petroleum Act to fabricate new cranes according to the American Petroleum Institute (API) 2C," he explained.

The standard stipulated by the API is higher than ISO.

From this activity, the company has to date, refurbished 61 offshore pedestal cranes for Petronas Carigali and Exxon Mobil. Since being licensed as a new crane fabricator, it has also delivered 16 new cranes to Sarawak Shell, Exxon Mobil and Sime Engineering.

Apart from Indonesia, Handal has also indentified a local partner in Brunei.

The company is keen to expand its business into countries in the Southeast Asian region.
