Hand-drawn Batik Worth Rp1.3 Billion Stolen, Police Apprehend Suspects
Hand-drawn batik worth Rp1.3 billion that was on display at an exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Senayan, Central Jakarta, was stolen. The case came to light following a direct report from a victim identified by the initial H, filed at the Tanah Abang Police Station on Wednesday (4/2).
"The victim reported a theft that occurred on Wednesday, 4 February 2026 at approximately 08:00 Western Indonesian Time. The victim suffered losses amounting to Rp1,376,000,000," said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Tanah Abang Police Station, AKP Ikhsan Rangga, in a statement on Monday (16/2).
Following the report, police immediately inspected the crime scene and examined CCTV footage. The recordings showed the perpetrator using a Toyota Caya vehicle with licence plate number F-1091-FBU.
Information about the vehicle used by the suspect provided police with the basis to gather further intelligence until the current whereabouts of the driver were identified.
On Thursday (12/2), police visited the residence of the suspect, a woman identified by the initials LDNK. However, she was not at home.
"Subsequently, the suspect's husband informed us of LDNK's whereabouts, and based on his directions, the suspect LDNK was apprehended," said Ikhsan.
LDNK then informed police of the whereabouts of two other suspects with the initials KN and GJY, who were at a foundation near her home.
"The two suspects, KN and GJY, were then apprehended along with evidence consisting of batik clothing and batik fabric from the theft," said Ikhsan.
In this case, police have seized a number of items as evidence, including two containers filled with batik clothing and batik fabric, two large white sacks containing batik clothing and batik fabric, one suitcase containing batik clothing and batik fabric, five red plastic bags containing batik clothing and batik fabric, one suitcase containing batik clothing, a mobile phone, and a vehicle.
All three suspects and the evidence have been taken to the Tanah Abang Police Station for further investigation.
