Hanania Umrah Victim Quavers as She Expresses Deep Disappointment: 'Trusted, Then Defrauded'
Police have officially detained and named Hanania Group’s Managing Director, Ahmad Syah Farhan (ASF), as a suspect in a case of alleged fraud and embezzlement related to Umrah travel. The criminal action has affected numerous prospective pilgrims forced to cancel their trip to the Holy Land for Umrah. One victim is Rosiani, who suffered financial losses amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah. For Rosiani, earning that money was not easy to fulfil her dream of performing Umrah with her family. While holding back tears with a quavering voice, Rosiani expressed her disappointment at Hanania’s betrayal of her trust. “I and my husband worked hard to save this money; when I trusted Hanania to send us, we were instead defrauded like this,” Rosiani stated during tvOne’s Kabar Petang programme. “We were supposed to depart on 16 June, but on 27 May, we received a broadcast message from Ahmad Syah Farhan (ASF), the owner of Hanania, stating they could not send us as pilgrims without clear reason,” she added. The case has left her extremely emotional, as she was originally set to go on Umrah for the first time with her husband, her parents, and her unborn child. “Four passengers: me, my husband, my parents, and possibly my baby. I’m currently pregnant, so it was a joy to be able to perform Umrah while expecting,” she explained. However, Rosiani had good reason to trust Hanania for the trip. The travel agency had previously sent numerous prominent Indonesian celebrities and held a MURI record for the largest number of Umrah pilgrims. “Why did I trust Hanania so much? They used many celebrities for endorsements. I was so sure because they set a MURI record for the most pilgrims. That made me confident,” she said. Unreasonable Reasons and Compensation A number of victims visited the travel agency’s office to demand clarity regarding the unilateral cancellation of their Umrah trips.
