Hanania Travel Seeks Investors After Thousands of Umrah Pilgrims Fail to Depart
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Managing Director of PT Hanania (Hanania Travel), Ahmad Syah Farhan, has stated that the company is seeking investors to settle obligations to thousands of Umrah pilgrims who were unable to depart for the holy land. His remarks came during a mediation session with hundreds of prospective pilgrims at Hanania Travel’s headquarters in Mal Kota Kasablanka office complex, South Jakarta, on Thursday (28 May 2026). Farhan said the company is also attempting to release assets from business associates to fund settlement of obligations to pilgrims. He claimed his presence before the pilgrims demonstrates good faith and proves he is not evading responsibility. Farhan offered two resolution options: rescheduling departures gradually over the next six months with adjusted pricing, or a refund paid in instalments over a maximum of two years. ‘The first option is for us to reschedule departures gradually over the next six months with price adjustments,’ Farhan stated. He explained that price adjustments are necessary because Hanania Travel will use a Joint Operation system with other travel agencies to handle departures. ‘Hence, other agencies will handle the departures. Due to external factors such as jet fuel and other costs, those choosing this option will face price adjustments,’ he added. However, the proposal received no positive response from the prospective pilgrims. Tensions escalated when Farhan proposed a refund payable over two years. ‘For those wanting a refund, we are offering instalments over a maximum of two years,’ Farhan said. Upon hearing this, several pilgrims immediately rejected the offer. ‘No way!’ they shouted. Farhan stated he is prepared to accept the consequences of the company’s failure to send thousands of pilgrims.
